Breast ptosis is breast sagging associated with distension of the skin envelope and supporting structures.

The upper pole and often uninhabited. Breast ptosis can be primary, related to the natural development of the breast associated with weaker supporting tissues, or secondary, following weight loss or pregnancy.

The mastopexy aims to restore the areola in the right position and give a new, more favorable shape to the breast. The scars needed to achieve this goal vary depending on the degree of ptosis: from a simple scar around the areola to a vertical scar on the lower pole of the breast associated with a scar in the furrow.

Depending on the desired result, it may sometimes be necessary to combine other techniques, such as the placement of a prosthesis (breast augmentation) and/or fat injection (lipofilling).

Mastopexy is a cosmetic operation that takes between an hour and a half and two hours. Day hospitalization is sufficient. Post-operative discomfort is relatively light and taking paracetamol combined with an anti-inflammatory is enough to be comfortable the first few days after the operation. Wearing a bra is recommended fr four weeks. After this period the patient can resume sports activities.
