Breast hypoplasia is the insufficient volume of the breast compared to the morphology of the patient. It can be the consequence of insufficient development or appear secondarily (breastfeeding, weight loss, etc.). In some cases, hypoplasia may be associated with other problems such as breast ptosis, breast asymmetry or malformation. It is important to do a good clinical examination with a complete analysis of the various defects.
Breast augmentation can be combined with complementary procedures such as mastopexy or lipofilling.
To achieve a significant increase in breast volume, breast prostheses are used. These consist of an envelope made of silicone elastomer and filled with a silicone gel. Filling with physiological serum is also possible but used exceptionally.
In my daily practice, I work with two types of breast implants from the brand Polytech® and Motiva®.
Each implant has very specific characteristics, which makes it possible to respond in a precise and differentiated way to the expectations of each patient.
A breast augmentation should be more than just an increase in breast volume. It seems important to me to also consider other aspects such as: the final shape of the breast (dressed and undressed), the cleavage and the texture to the touch. This is a bespoke treatment.
It is also possible to increase the volume of the breast by fat injections. This technique is called “lipofilling”. It is often used in many aesthetic and reconstructive indications. However, this technique is used less often in breast augmentation indications because the volume of fat transferred in a single operation is limited to around 100-150 grams, which is only a small gain in volume.
Breast augmentation is a relatively short aesthetic intervention of 1h to 1h30 with day or night hospitalization. Taking paracetamol combined with an anti-inflammatory is sufficient to treat possible post-operative discomfort. Wearing a special bra is recommended for four weeks post-operatively. After this period, the patient can resume any physical activity.
