Frequently, breast enlargement is associated with pose and asymmetry of the breasts.
The problem of breast hypertrophy is twofold: functional and aesthetic.
Breast reduction aims to solve both of these problems. Surgical breast size reduction (functional part) restores adequate breast volume which improves physical complaints and resolves dress issues. During the same surgical time, the chest is lifted, it is given a new, more youthful shape and any asymmetry is corrected. Often, this intervention is accompanied by liposuction of the lateral part of the thorax to correct the excess fat frequently present in this area.
This operation takes about an hour and a half to two hours. Day hospitalization is usually sufficient; in the event of a significant reduction, an overnight stay in hospital may be the most comfortable option. The post-operative discomforts are relatively light and taking paracetamol associated with an anti-inflammatory is enough to be comfortable the first days after the operation. Wearing a bra is recommended for four weeks. After this period, the patient can resume sports activities.
Breast reduction is a relatively light procedure and there are not many contraindications. It can be offered to a young adolescent who suffers from breast hypertrophy as well as to an already older patient in whom the breast hypertrophy has worsened after menopause.
